SoulCollage: Maiden, Mother, Crone

I've been away from my camera for awhile, but still working on creative projects. Lately I've been doing SoulCollage® - a process that reminds me a lot of dreamwork. SoulCollage® involves choosing images that you're drawn to - positively or negatively - in magazines, photos or books, cutting and pasting, and creating a scene with them. It can be something fun or humorous, something provocative, something that probes the depths of your psyche or some other therapeutic work you might be doing. I've been working on a number of processes - the Twelve Steps, the seven chakras, archetypes - and what I end up with is something like a Tarot deck that I can continue to work with. The collages are done on 5X8 inch cards, so the scenes are fairly small.

This group is from a workshop I took last month from Diane Jacobson Born - the Triptych, or Maiden, Mother, Crone (the original Trinity). For three consecutive Wednesday evenings, we explored the meaning of each of these aspects of ourselves, created collages and then shared our work and our thoughts with each other. The peonies are in bloom here in Portland. The robust flowers don't last long, so I felt the need to capture them for posterity.

I love to get right down inside a flower and see what's in there.

I thought this looked like little naked birds in a nest.

This family of Canada geese was crossing a busy road this morning; traffic came to a halt to let them cross -- and to admire them. I love it when I have my camera handy at the right time!

The Rhododendron Garden

Our annual walk around Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden, on our anniversary.

We decided to take Liza even though we worried about her barking at the ducks and geese. She was wonderful, and so loved exploring all the smells!

Redwing blackbird; this is prime territory for them, and their beautiful calls echo all over the park.

We think this is the stamen. Whatever it is, it's fascinating!

Now we start to play for real! Chris is hosting Three-Six-Five, so those of us posting a pic a day have a central place to exchange links. Like Chris, I'm gathering mine together for one weekly post rather than posting each one daily.

And away we go!

Day 8 - 01/08/10. Yes, they filled all those vials - and more - with my blood. I was running on empty for awhile.

Day 9 - 01/09/10. Laurie (well, Laurie's hands), putting the final fringe touches on a beautiful shawl she knitted for our friend Tara.

Day 10 - 01/10/10. Fog dancer.

Day 11 - 01/11/10. Kwan Yin, inside and out. Our bedroom windows look out on the courtyard, and two Kwan Yins watch over us.

Day 12 - 01/12/10. This is one of the toddler toys. I hope Laurie isn't teaching them to pick locks, or we shall have to nickname her Fagin!

Day 13 - 01/13/10. Das boot. I know, I know, that translates as The Boat - but the boot feels like a boat when I try to walk in it. This is why I won't be out and about shooting photos for awhile (nothing serious, just wound protection). I'll be staying in for several days trying to find objects of interest to photograph. Oh yes, and reading a lot.

Day 14 - 01-14-10. That's my meditation loft, waaaay up there. I have to climb a ladder to get to it. I haven't been able to do that for awhile. I wonder what's happening up there, besides those cobwebs.

These are close-ups of some bottles in our food co-op bottle wall.

I did a little research on the stamps on the bottles and found the following:

Sand Springs in Tulsa County became one center for the [bottle] industry. As Charles Page developed the town into an industrial center, he induced the owners of several glass factories to locate there. These included in 1913 the Kerr Glass Manufacturing Company, which moved to Oklahoma from Chicago in 1913. Kerr-Hubbard and Kelly Company made lamp chimneys, Sand Springs Glass Company also operated there, Alexander H. Kerr & Company made fruit jars, and the Sand Springs Water Bottle Company prospered. By 1955, however, only Kerr Glass Manufacturing and A. H. Kerr Company remained.

I visited a glass store today to get a small piece of glass cut for a transom. Of course, photo ops were everywhere. I spotted some bright blue glass and had a little fun.
