Today's Flowers: 02-28-10 - Daphne and friend

Today's Flowers hosts can be found here.

The daphne is in full bloom and this little guy didn't waste any time finding it. I was informed this is NOT a ladybug, but an Asian beetle - still good for eating the aphids, but threatening the true ladybug population.

Beautiful shot, dear!

Good week for you!

Lovely pictures and great shot.
We have the same problem in Canada.
Since the deliberate introduction of the Asian Lady Beetle Harmonia axyridis, native North American Ladybugs are become noticeably scarcer.
- Cheers Gisela.

Yes. it looks like the Asian bug. I think most of us till call them ladybugs, though. :) Apparently they do pretty much the same job, except they are known to bite. EW!

The daphne is beautiful!

Okay, biting insects can go away! I love the contrast in colours between the beetle and the blossom, and the way it gives scale to the flowers!!

What a lovely flower. I'm totally unfamiliar with it. Thanks for bringing a new bloom to my flower experience.

I saw a ladybug the other day when I was doing some gardening. At least I hope that's what it was. I'd hate to see the real ones disappear. Great picture Terri!

Lovely picture. It's humbling to think of "lesser" creatures living on so little, and the effort they put in to survive.
