Alphabet Finds: U and V

Ever on the lookout for new and different challenges, I've taken on Melli's alphabet challenge. The idea is to find each letter of the alphabet in a naturally occurring state. In other words (or in other letters), no fair using the 'S' in a stop sign; rather you need to find something that is shaped like an 'S'.

This week: U and V.

For the U, look for the part that
isn't there, in the hedge.

And for the V, it's back to the mall.

Ellipsis - Monday Photo Shoot: Footprints

This week Carly from Ellipsis suggests we photograph FOOTPRINTS. Here's my take on the theme:

Ruby Tuesday - 03-31-09: At the train station

MaryT/theteach hosts this weekly event - photographs of all things red.

Portland's Union Train Station: the walls and floors are marble, so lights reflect wonderfully.

Macro Monday: Veggies

Macro Monday - hosted by Lisa

From a recent trip to the food co-op. I love photographing veggies almost as much as flowers. The shapes and colors and patterns are so amazing.

Monochrome Monday - 03-30-09: Train station

Monochrome Maniacs explore black and white.

So what do you do while waiting at the train station for your sweetie to arrive? Shoot photos, of course.

Ellipsis - Monday Photo Shoot: Things that float

This week Carly from Ellipsis suggests we photograph THINGS THAT FLOAT. I immediately thought of bubbles. And then I discovered, bubbles? Not so easy to photograph! when they're floating. I was more successful after they landed.

I'll have to practice with floating bubbles

and report back later. When it's not windy and rainy.

Weekly Winners 03-28-09

Weekly Winners is hosted by Sarcastic Mom.

Some of my favorite photos from this week.

Sometimes a girl just has to have some ribs. The window menu at Cannon's Rib Express, the best in town.

At the flower shop: Proteus.

And an astonishing orchid.

Ms. P and I had a play date:

The scrub jay is a little big for this feeder.

Daffodil demise.

This one reminds me of Munch's The Scream.

Shadow Shot Sunday 03-29-09: The Kitchen Counter

Our kitchen was full of sun and shadows during the days of Equinox:

After seeing so many of these spring flowers in the photoblog world the last couple of weeks, here are daffodils of a different color:

Camera Critters - 03-28-09: Birdsong

Camera CrittersThis meme is all about photos of animals/critters.

Scrub jay, crow and song sparrow. Three very different bird songs. The sparrow loves the forsythia bush and serenades us from there every morning and evening.

PhotoHunt - Hands

This week's PhotoHunt assignment: HANDS.

Ms P. spent the day here, busy busy busy with her hands.

This is a rerun, but I love it for this week's theme:

Sepia Scenes 03-25-09: Back in Time

Sepia Scenes is hosted by Mary T, who also hosts the fabulous Ruby Tuesday.

For once, my photos come not from a vintage store but from my own ancestors.

The photos are in a small leather-bound book. There are (already sepia!) photos of my great grandfather as an infant and some photos of great-great grandfather in the military (Civil War).

The autograph book is a small red velvet book that was my maternal great-grandmother's.

A page from the autograph book:

Grandma Norma's watch, inscribed with her name. There's also a place for a photo, like a locket. It's made by the E. Howard Watch Co., Boston. I'm having a hard time getting a good photo of this.

Grandpa's watch. It still has the braided leather fob.

Alphabet Finds: S and T

Ever on the lookout for new and different challenges, I've taken on Melli's alphabet challenge. The idea is to find each letter of the alphabet in a naturally occurring state. In other words (or in other letters), no fair using the 'S' in a stop sign; rather you need to find something that is shaped like an 'S'.

This week: S and T. I managed to find these in the same place; see the blue S on the floor and the T anchored inside of it? (I'm getting a lot of mileage out of these mall photos this week! You can see 5 escalators in this shot.)
