A to Z Challenge: the Letter Z

This meme comes from Martha at Menagerie. The idea is to shoot a photo (or more) for each letter of the alphabet; we move on to a new letter every two weeks, more or less.

We now come to the end of the alphabet - and with Z, it will be all zipped up.

I started out with a photo of something with a lot of zippers, but that seemed to be quite a common choice for Z. So since I'm typically rebellious, I give you:

...two zucchinis and a Zen book on a zafu on a zabudon with a zipper.

A to Z Challenge: the Letter Y: Yo Yo Man

This meme comes from Martha at Menagerie. The idea is to shoot a photo (or more) for each letter of the alphabet; we move on to a new letter every two weeks, more or less.

This time: the letter Y. I decided early on I wanted to photograph a yo-yo. But we didn't have any around the house, so I left it up to fate. And like magic, one day last week at the ATM, I met Ethan, who plays a mean yo-yo!

A to Z Challenge: the Letter W

This meme comes from Martha at Menagerie. The idea is to shoot a photo (or more) for each letter of the alphabet; we move on to a new letter every two weeks, more or less.

Today = W
(Click on the photos for a wonderfully wider view. Or not, in this case.)

W is for Willamette River. W is for Warning. W is for eeeeWWWWW.

Today = V

I went to this V place:

...to shoot a variety of vintage vases.

I didn't see any vinyl books inside though.

A to Z Challenge: the Letter U

This meme comes from Martha at Menagerie. The idea is to shoot a photo (or more) for each letter of the alphabet; we move on to a new letter every two weeks, more or less.

Today = U
(Click on the photos for an unparalleled view.)

I searched a few antique and junk stores until I found the perfect ...

Yes, Virginia, there really were manual typewriters back in the good old days.

They were heavy and noisy and if you made a mistrake mistake, before the days of WhiteOut, you had to try to erase it or start all over.

The ribbons were messy and had to be changed frequently. They did offer two colors: red or black. But only one font, similar to Courier. Maybe it even was Courier. Whatever, it wasn't very attractive.

I think a little maintenance is in order for this one.

If you typed very fast, sometimes the keys would jam together and you'd have to untangle them. Then you'd have ink all over your fingers. If you wanted multiple copies you used carbon paper, also messy.

A to Z Challenge: the Letter T

This meme comes from Martha at Menagerie. The idea is to shoot a photo (or more) for each letter of the alphabet; we move on to a new letter every two weeks, more or less.

Today = T
(Click on the photos for a tastier view.)

T for testing the dough - it's ready!

T for twist (actually, it's braided)

T for tasty treat!

And now for something completely different: T for Towne Storage

A to Z Challenge: the Letter S

This meme comes from Martha at Menagerie. The idea is to shoot a photo for each letter of the alphabet; we move on to a new letter every two weeks.

Today, boys and girls, we learn about the letter 'S' as in Sesame Street. Or as in sorry, I couldn't resist. I had a hard time choosing which S photo to post, so here are several. I avoided the obvious Santa and silver bells and stockings.

As always, click on the image for a much better view!

Swiss chard, the winter warrior.

Sunnyside Piazza, a little oasis in our neighborhood. Portland is very into community space, even if it's a bench on a street corner. Not all are as elaborate as this one which includes a kiosk for posting information and events and this ginormous sunflower in the intersection:

Squash at the co-op.

Self-portrait: my colorful socks. Not stockings.

Oh, and -- SNOW! It's just ducky.

A to Z Challenge: the Letter R

This meme comes from Martha at Menagerie. The idea is to shoot a photo for each letter of the alphabet; we move on to a new letter every two weeks.

Still a familiar sight around our neighborhood. I love the scritch scritch sound on the sidewalk and the opportunities to chat with neighbors. Give me a rake any day over a leaf blower.
