Thursday Challenge: Building 04-02-09

Thursday Challenge for Fun and Learning - this week's theme is BUILDING.

Keeping on with the train station theme: here's Portland's Union Station from three angles. The back, where departures and arrivals take place:

Side view, facing north:

And the front. There are offices upstairs rented out to a variety of businesses, and an upscale restaurant on the south end.

From Wikipedia:
The initial design for the station was created in 1882 by McKim, Mead, and White. Had the original plan been built, the station would have been the largest train station in the world. A smaller plan was introduced and accepted in 1895. Construction of the station began in 1890. It was built by Northern Pacific Terminal Company at a cost of $300,000, and opened on February 14, 1896. The signature piece of the structure is the 50 ft. tall Romanesque clock tower. The "Go By Train" neon sign was added to it after World War II.

Thursday Challenge: Windows/doors 03-05-09

Thursday Challenge for Fun and Learning - this week's theme is WINDOWS AND DOORS.

I love this neighborhood church - it's so incongruous with anything else in the area, which is why I find it so interesting.

Thursday Challenge: Clothes 02-12-09

Thursday Challenge for Fun and Learning - this week's theme is CLOTHES.

While I was shooting vintage vases for the A to Z challenge, I couldn't resist snapping some of the clothes they had displayed.

OK, these boots are NOT made for walking.

This outfit makes a statement. It's in a language I don't understand, but it's a statement .

I don't even know where to start with this one.

Perhaps a jauntier hat would help.

A nice tie for the gentleman?

Thursday Challenge: Experimental 01-22-09

Thursday Challenge for Fun and Learning - this week's theme is EXPERIMENTAL. Click photo to enlarge.

This was an experiment with moving the camera around while shooting tree lights.
For me it evokes traveling through space or celestial bodies colliding.

Thursday Challenge: Night 01-08-09

Thursday Challenge theme: Night

I spotted this last night and had to try some photos just for fun. This is a Mylar rainbow windsock on our back porch. No flash, the porch light was on behind me. I played with some movement and had some odd and interesting results. A bit of bokeh happening too. More impressive if enlarged, by clicking on the photos.

Thursday Challenge: Path 12-24-08

Thursday Challenge theme: Path

Before and after photos of the path to the back yard. Once I got there, I couldn't get the gate open.

It appears to be melting today. I may get out of the house tomorrow unless it rains and freezes tonight!
