Round Robin 11-19-11: Gone

I haven't participated in the Round Robin meme for a very long time! It's fun to have a theme and go in search of a subject to match -- or find a recent photo that fits the theme. This time the theme is: GONE.

Round Robin - Looking Up

Our Round Robin challenge this time is LOOKING UP.

Waxing moon at dusk. I tried out my new tripod last week for a little longer exposure.

Round Robin: See the Music

Our Round Robin challenge this time is to "see the music."

This was an easy one for me, as I spent last weekend at a women's music camp. It was a cowgirl theme this year, so we had lots of fun dressing up in our gear and playing great music.

Clockwise, from top left: our three organizers demonstrate on tiny harmonicas; Nan yucks it up in her 30 gallon hat; Flip plays a beautiful guitar piece; Coty on banjo; Crystal, hot fiddler; Brogan on ukulele and Nova on accordion, with the ghost of Dale Evans watching.

Round Robin - In Flight

Our Round Robin challenge this time is to photograph something IN FLIGHT.

This might be stretching the theme a bit - this is taken from the loading dock of the Portland Aerial Tram - the outgoing ship has just left the dock. You definitely have a sense of flying in the gondola.

Round Robin - By the Numbers

Our Round Robin challenge this time is BY THE NUMBERS. Anything showing numbers: signs, a child holding up fingers to show how old he is, a number on a shirt, house numbers, whatever..."

Back to the train station!

Round Robin - Purple

Our Round Robin challenge this time is the color PURPLE. I happen to be a bit of a purple fanatic. Many of my clothes are purple. I have a purple electric bass, purple accents in my studio (I used to have a purple bedroom when I was single), I've threatened to put a purple streak in my hair. So I knew this challenge would be pretty easy for me. And it just so happens, a good many purple flowers are in bloom right now. These are all crocuses in our front yard.

Round Robin - Light Moves

Our Round Robin challenge this time is to show the different ways light moves, from reflections to light refracted. I had it in mind to find those wonderful watery reflections and shadows that happen on a body of water on a sunny day. And down by the riverside, I was granted my wish today.

Round Robin: Not of This Season

Our Round Robin challenge this time is to photograph something not of the season -- something that looks or feels a little out of place for the time of year.

Here in the northern hemisphere it's the middle of winter. We've had some sunny days here in Portland, but it's been bitter cold and windy. Last weekend we went out for breakfast and I noticed two young women wearing thongs (no, not those kind! the ones also known as flip-flops).

Brrrr. Popsicle Toes!

Round Robin - Resolutions

Steven is hosting this round. His assignment, should we choose to accept it:

Think of three photo themes for the new year! Pick one, photograph it, and share the other two along with your challenge update. Open themes - your choices - have fun with your camera. We'll add your other two themes to the photo challenge pool for use in 2009!
Of course, in true procrastinator's style, I've put this off till the last minute. For my first theme, I'm choosing macro photography. I love getting to see the intricacies of a plant, an insect, a guitar string.... I see things in the photo I never would have noticed otherwise.

This one was taken a couple of weeks ago. It's a sunflower encased in ice and snow.

Other themes I'd like to work on:
  • Shooting in low light (indoors) and outside night shots
  • Movement shots: birds, children, insects

Round Robin - Toys!

Our theme for this round is favorite toy. Well, I hit the jackpot with this one, since my partner Laurie is a family childcare provider. We have very cool toys in our house! Be sure to click on the photos for the full effect.

This is sort of a puzzle, but you can put the pieces together any way you want to and make an unlimited number of cool geometric designs.

Ball Tracker. Endless hypnotic fun.

Marble thingy (Laurie couldn't remember the name).
Much noisier than the Ball Tracker - but very fun to photograph.

Round Robin - Hometown Holiday Decorations

I had great plans for this challenge - I was going to go downtown to the square and photograph Portland's "Living Room" decorations, including the very tall Christmas tree. But a head cold and now a fair amount of snow have conspired (not dreaming by the fire) to keep me home. I did manage to snap a few photos last week of some fun neighborhood decorations. Here they are (be sure to click on the photos to get the most out of them):

On Hawthorne Blvd.

A fanciful Santa and flamingo-deer

Not sure what this is - I'm thinking the 12 days of Christmas are in there somewhere.

This is a lovely animated reindeer

Mother Nature decorated this persimmon tree...

...and this catoneaster.

Round Robin - On My Table

For my first Round Robin, the challenge is "On My Table."

It's late, the turkey is in the fridge, the games are over, it's quiet and I stumbled onto the Round Robin Challenge. I captured the pumpkin pie/cribbage aftermath ...

...and this one. I love the cat poised to jump on the robin!
