Shadow Shot Sunday 03-22-09: Skybridge

Visit other shadow shooters via Hey Harriet's site.

In general I don't do malls. Pioneer Place mall, though, is downtown Portland and therefore doesn't sprawl over 90 bazillion acres with big box "architecture" (if you can even use that term). I also don't go to malls to shop for fun (definitely NOT my idea of fun) - only if I have something very specific I can get only there. Which was the case last week. I had my camera with me and was able to get some really interesting shots, some lines and angles, and these shadow shots. This is a skybridge that connects two sections of the mall, over 5th Avenue.

Here's another interesting shadow on one of the upper levels. It's all glass ceiling above, so when the sun shines, it can be a fairly magical place. If you can ignore the conspicuous consumption.

These are terrific shots and great shadows! They also made me homesick! I lived in Portland for sixteen years and loved it! Still miss it although I've lived in Seattle for two years now. Thanks for sharing and for the memories!

I do agree with you about malls. I avoid them at all costs.
But look at the fabulous photos you got! The lines of the shadows are beautiful.

Fabulous shadows! I don't do malls either, but hey! If you have to go...ALWAYS take your camera. ;-) You proved it pays off.

I'm not a mall fan either but I'm glad you were able to bring us the shadow work. Happy SSS!

Wonderful shadows! I'm not a mall person either, but with views like these I'd make a trip to check it out.

Your flower and baby photos below are just wonderful. How lucky your family is to have such a talented photographer to capture these moments.

There was a time we loved the mall...however - we'd rather not now!! Great shadows - we're favoring the second one - like the movement of the shadow!

Oh I feel exactly the same way about those hideous shopping malls. I much prefer the old fashioned kind of shopping strips (which sadly are becoming a thing of the past in this country :(

Great idea to take a camera to the mall. A nice way to make the experience more enjoyable! The shots are great!

These are great shots of the mall. At least you get to see the sun, so it's not all bad. Our local mall is pretty similar, so I guess the look is universal. That's why I love visiting the city of Melbourne, where you can still shop along old-fashioned shopping strips.

Beautiful, translucent shadows on the sky bridge.

Malls have sprung up in Japan as well. Rice fields are often replaced by malls nowadays.

I just feel like my eyes are open just a little wider to the wonders of life with just this little meme...who knew so many shadows existed...or cared.

Have a great day!
