Camera Critters - 12-20-08

Camera CrittersThis meme is all about photos of animals/critters. This is my first time playing here.

Last week I noticed this persimmon tree in our neighborhood and thought it looked so unique, with no leaves and the bright orange fruit hanging like holiday decorations. I toddled over with my camera for a few shots.

And then these guys started showing up...

...and had quite a feast while I was there.

How interesting that a tree has fruit when it has no leaves. Good for the birds!

That tree is definitely calling to the birds!

I have a jackdaw a small crow but ravens are the business. Great catches.

Hi Terri, Welcome to Camera Critters! And congrats on being newly retired (now what you gonna do?)

Nice captures of the Persimmon tree and what looks like a Crow to me, noticing the straight beak and the square tail. Ravens have a rounded or wedge shaped tail and more of a thick, "Roman-nose" bill.

Thank you all for your visits. Yes, it is indeed a crow. They are plentiful around here.

A bit of trivia re: the persimmon tree - there was one lone surviving tree near the epicenter of the atomic bomb blast in Nagasaki in 1945. It was a persimmon tree.
