Thematic Photographic - 12-17-08 - Quiet

From Carmi at Written Inc.:
Quiet can mean radically different things depending on how we're feeling at any given moment. Literally, it's usually seen as an absence of sound. More figuratively, however, I've always perceived the term as that sense of peace you get when you're left alone long enough to think...Starting today and continuing for the next week, I hope you'll share quiet-themed photos on your blog.
I appreciate this theme, especially this week when so many people are experiencing anxiety and angst over the holidays. To me, this is a time for quietness, for inner reflection. In the northern hemisphere, these are the long nights of dreams and hibernation. But in contrast to what our bodies want to do naturally, many people crank it up into high gear, shop till they drop, eat and drink too much and go to endless parties. I'm not opposed to celebrating winter holidays (my choice is Solstice) but like most things in American culture, we go completely overboard.

My mantra: keep it simple. So step into the whisper of snowfall for a moment, take some time for reflection, listen to what your body really needs (maybe a nap!). Enjoy the holidays in peace.

There is a definite serenity about new snow. My brother lives near Portland and called me while he was enjoying the quiet falling of the snow.

The smiling buddha in the snow - excellent choice for the theme and my favorite of your photographs. I am in the process of reading the book, Breakfast with Buddha, so it really resonated this morning.

So true that quiet does not have to be the absence of sound in your life, perhaps it's just the absence of noise whatever that may be.

Nice photos for Carmi's challenge.
